What’s My Name?

Curated Information from AVVO.COM, The National Notary Association, and Mojave Legal Docs  /  April 20, 2024

A lot of people have different versions of their name – Jim for James, Peggy for Margaret, Dick for Richard, Bill for William, Bob for Robert, and so forth. Plus, there are different versions of last names. Traditionally, in the U.S., women and children take their husband/ father’s last name but in other countries it’s a different arrangement where the kids take both of their parents’ last names and then later, often times, one last name gets left behind. Other issues can arise by not using suffixes like Junior or III.

When creating an Estate Plan, sometimes people get hung up on the first question:

What is your name?

Click here to see what three attorneys said on AVVO.COM when posed the question:

“I’m not sure which name to use on my legal documents. I never use my first name and use my maiden name as my middle name.”

At Mojave Legal Docs, we will need to be able to notarize your signature according to your government issued ID.. For questions about which form of ID is acceptable, click here.

In the event that you need a Name Change, we can help with that too. Click here to see our Services Menu under the Civil category.
